After launching it, he navigated this river boat more than 1,500 miles southward to Vicksburg, Miss. From whence he and his associates started and established gospel work among the freed slaves in Yazoo Valley, Miss. The "Morning Star" provided a home for Edson White and his Wife, and other mission workers. It was also a chapel, print shop, dispensary and classroom.
