The University Library recently purchased 1-year memberships with 2 publishers of open access journals: BioMed Central (BMC) and Hindawi. These memberships provide for reduced costs to LLU authors who have articles accepted for publication in the open access journals by these publishers. The Library has had numerous requests from faculty and staff over the last few years to consider supporting LLU authors who publish in open access publications. Hindawi and BMC have been the most requested. BioMed Central publishes over 200 online journals, across the whole spectrum of biology and medicine. Hindawi publishes over 300 peer-reviewed journals covering a wide range of academic disciplines. Please read below for more details on each membership.

For BMC, the University Library purchased the Supporter Membership which allows LLU authors to get a 15% discount on the article-processing charges of all research articles accepted for publication in journals published by BioMed Central, Chemistry Central and SpringerOpen. Go to: http://www.biomedcentral.com/inst/52905 and find LLU’s own member page. You will see a listing of all the publications in BioMed Central journals by researchers from our institution - and information about how to submit your research. When submitting a manuscript, either via a journal home page or via http://www.biomedcentral.com/manuscript/, you will be identified as belonging to a member institute and automatically granted the 15% discount on article processing charges if you are within our institution’s firewall. If you are at home or at an external terminal when submitting your paper, you can still claim this discount by stating your affiliation with LLU.

The University Library purchased Hindawi’s Institutional Membership program for 12 months beginning 9/1/2012. All the articles submitted by any author from LLU and accepted for publication in any of Hindawi’s journals during this period will not be subject to any Article Processing Charges. When submitting articles to any of Hindawi’s open access journals be sure to tell them that LLU has an institutional membership! For a listing of Hindawi journals, please see https://www.hindawi.com/. Visit LLU’s institutional web page at http://www.hindawi.com/institutions/llu.edu/ where you will see articles published by LLU authors in Hindawi journals along with LLU faculty and staff who serve on Hindawi editorial boards and have reviewed one or more articles for Hindawi journals in the past couple of years.
